KFI delivered the complete façade package for the Rotorua Hospital redevelopment, a major healthcare project that included both the refurbishment of the existing Clinical Services Building and the construction of a new Inpatient Building. Designed by Peddle Thorp Aitken Architects and delivered by Mainzeal Property & Construction for the Lakes District Health Board, the project aimed to provide modern clinical facilities while respecting the cultural and environmental context of Rotorua.
The façade features KFI’s 40mm seismic strip windows and steel fire-rated windows, engineered to accommodate movement and meet strict safety requirements. A large roof glazing system, supported by structural purlins and rafters, was installed to bring natural light into key internal spaces, including a central atrium. Frameless automatic doors and 50mm commercial hinged doors were integrated into the design to support high-traffic hospital entry points while maintaining a clean and functional appearance.
The design reflects Rotorua’s cultural heritage through carefully considered architectural detailing and forms, while the façade systems were tailored for performance, durability, and long-term functionality within a demanding healthcare environment.
