The Auckland Airport Transport Hub is a four-level integrated facility combining car parking, a transit concourse, and a 5-Star Green Star-rated office block, connected to the international terminal via a skybridge. Handling over 10,000 vehicle movements daily, it forms a key part of Auckland Airport’s front-door experience.

KFI provided façade engineering support, collaborating with ISTHMUS, Aurecon, and Insol Ltd. The façade features 8,500 m² of perforated aluminium panels in two finishes, arranged with propeller-inspired fins and radiused corners. Varying perforation densities (Dusk +200% and +100%) create a dynamic gradient effect evoking sky transitions.

The design underwent wind tunnel testing to ensure performance in high wind zones. The perforated panels provide shading, ventilation, and visual interest with minimal maintenance. Adjacent office façades continue the language using vertically oriented fins for daylight control and aesthetic continuity.

The façade strategy supports thermal performance, acoustic resilience, and sustainability, reinforcing AIAL’s goal of delivering New Zealand’s first Parksmart Gold-rated precinct.
