FORMiS
Te Koranga is a nine-storey commercial development in Auckland, consisting of two levels of parking and seven levels of office and retail space. KFI was engaged to deliver the full façade system, comprising a high-performance unitised curtain wall and a bespoke external mesh screen.
The design intent called for a façade that balanced cultural narrative with environmental performance. KFI engineered and installed the unitised curtain wall system to ensure speed of construction, thermal efficiency, and airtightness. Overlaid on this is a sculptural mesh screen, designed and fabricated by KFI, which provides solar control, privacy, and visual depth. The screen’s vertical rhythm references Te Koranga — traditional Māori shark-drying racks once used on the site — while its undulating surface evokes the movement of coastal sand.
This dual-layer system achieves both functional and expressive goals: reducing solar gain, maintaining natural ventilation, and embedding cultural context in the architectural expression. KFI managed the complete façade package from design through to installation, delivering a solution that is both technically robust and visually distinctive.
